"This is a very simple, easy but tasty bitter gourd recipe. It is ideal to have with cooked rice. I have it almost everyday because I love bitter gourd no matter what kind of preparation (fried, mezhukkupuratti, cooked with curd). Here I am describing the pavakka mezhukkupuratti (Malayalam language for bittergourd with poured oil). I am from Kerala, India." ~ Simi Raghava

Ingredients
2 bitter gourd (light green, medium size variety)
1 onion
2 green chillies
1/2 cup coconut slices
4 tbsp oil
1/4 tsp salt for taste
Optional: turmeric powder
Directions
1. Cut pavakka (bitter gourd) lengthwise and slice thinly. Slice the onions thin.
2. Pour oil into a hard-bottomed pan, add pavakka and onion slices, green chillies and coconut slices. Add salt and turmeric powder. Cover and cook on low heat for about 2 minutes.
3. Uncover the lid and continue to cook on low heat for another 5-6 minutes or until the vegetables are cooked. Mezhukkupuratti is ready to be served with rice.
