Shanhua, Taiwan—In support for World Diabetes Day, AVRDC held its first  Walk for Health at headquarters on 14 November 2011. More than 40 staff joined the walk to raise awareness about diabetes.

The walkers gathered at the front gate at 3:40 pm and the activity began with a brief introduction of World Diabetes Day by Sandra Habicht and Jen Wen Luoh of the Center's Nutrition group.

The group then set off on a 30-minute walk around the AVRDC research fields. The activity brought the AVRDC community closer together and united for a good cause.

AVRDC Director General Dyno Keatinge joined AVRDC South Asia staff and colleagues from the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) for a Global Diabetes Walk to raise awareness of the disease. The walk was held November 14 on the ICRISAT campus in Hyderabad, India.

Photos from the walk in Taiwan can be viewed in the Bitter Gourd Project album on facebook (non-facebook users can also view the photos).
